Using Layers in Gimp

Completed Image

In this blog I am going to combine 2 images together to make a final image. I will use one image as a frame for the other image. There are several ways to make the frame image, in this case I will use a combination of the Threshold tool and layer Mode.

  1. Open 2 photos into separate layers
  2. Decide which is going to be the foreground and background image.
  3. Place the foreground image on above the background one.
  4. With the foreground image selected, goto "Colours > Threshold" then adjust it till you get the amount of black showing that you want for the final image. The black will become the transparent section of the image in the end so play with it till you are happy
  5. Set the layer Mode to Screen and now you should see the image behind showing through.

I used the following images in this Blog:

Foreground Image - Quebec city

Background Image - After sunsets
